Social responsibility means long-term viability and sustainability that benefits society. These services include primary prevention services for families, dedicated educational support for young people in foster care and those involved in the justice system, school-based mental health services, community advocacy and technical training and assistance for our peer workforce. The programs I oversee provide a plethora of resources in communities to help each person we serve to reach their full potential. In short, this is a group that illustrates what it means to be socially responsible.įor each honoree on this list, we asked a few questions: What does your job entail and why do you enjoy the work you do? What does social responsibility mean to you – and how do you achieve it in your work? What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? We took the most compelling excerpts, edited for length and style, to paint a portrait of each honoree, in their own words. These business, government, nonprofit and advocacy leaders, carefully selected from hundreds of nominations, display both the idealism that underpins the belief that change is possible and a realistic understanding of the dedication required to effectuate real and enduring change. New York, much like the nation as a whole, is facing myriad challenges: the economic anxiety spurred by rising inflation, the volatility wrought by climate change, an unending coronavirus pandemic, a dispiriting rise in hate crimes, the scorched-earth political warfare that erodes our democratic norms – the list goes on and on.
